Todays Efforts

Today was devoted to taking the Christmas decorations down and practicing my free motion quilting. All I can say is I'm not sure there is enough thread in Florida for all the practicing I need to do! And....could someone please make a bigger bobbin? Am I missing something with bobbins?

I will not post a picture of the dining room table since it was only yesterday or the day before that I said I was going to do my best to keep my quilting/sewing organized.

I think this turned out really well. I think part of the beauty of freehand quilting is that it doesn't always turn out as expected. I'm particularly enamored of the suns in the top picture.

You're doing great with the free motion. it takes a lot of practice and time and i use machine fingers - gloves, which help me a lot. as for the bobbins, if you can figure that issue out you'll make a million. good luck and keep up the good work!!

Looks to me like you are well on the way to do exception machine quilting. I need to work on that so bad, and just don't want to put the time into it. Te worst part for me is getting the tension right.

Jackie, I just started using Superior Threads "Bottom Line" thread. It is a light weight bobbin thread so you can get more on the bobbin. I bought it a the local quilt show. You have to adjust your top tension a bit if you use a heavier top thread. I also LOVE their King Tut thread for machine quilting. SO YUMMY!

That is so cool!! That fun stitching is one of my favorite things about quilting (looking at not making...can't start another habit, it would cut into my knitting time)

You make me laugh. Getting organized is hard to do if your not use to it.Good luck with that. Your free form looks pretty good. I can't wait to see your first free form quilt.

Your doing a great job. I'll stick with quilting straight lines right now. I'm not that brave. haha I love the socks. I'm in the mountains of NC, and the high today is 30. I always have socks on. ;)

Thanks for visiting my blog. I couldn't find your e-mail, so I'll leave a comment here. My son in law was born in Florida. I've been a few times on vacation. You have something we never have: humidity. In our area the air is very dry, requiring lots of lotion. Southern Utah is a desert, and very different from Norhern Utah, which is in the mountains with ski resorts. Come for a visit sometime, just not to Southern Utah during the summer. It's way too hot!

Wow! I am really impressed. I have sewn for years, though not quilted or done anything free hand like that. Totally cool!

WOW! Your free motion looks very nice! I'm not good at machine quilt so it is so adorable!!

Thank you for your comment on my blog. I've started cutting stash to squares and strips since last night and will keep doing this work
until all three bags are empty.

Hope you will have a nice and safe new year!!

That looks pretty good! I recently tried for first time free motion quilting and I need A LOT OF practice, but most of it it's fun. I was brave and quilted on one table runner that needed to be quilted. I should take pictures and show it on my blog...soon.

Have a happy and creative new year!

Happy Stitching!
